Who this is for

An everyday chef’s knife with a practical moulded handle

Why it is in the shortlist

I suggest the Victorinox Fibrox as a starting point for someone who wants an everyday chef’s knife and is keeping spending down. This recommendation is based on product information; I am not presenting it as a hands-on review.

Victorinox lists a moulded non-slip handle and an extra-wide blade intended for general cutting. Handle comfort is personal, so try the grip if you can. The brand name cannot tell you whether it will fit your hand.

Check the model

Some retailers call this a chef’s knife and others an extra-wide carving knife. Look for the 20 cm extra-wide blade; the manufacturer reference is 5.2063.20. An Amazon search may also show different lengths, handles and unrelated products.

Compare the delivered price with a specialist retailer. I do not maintain live prices or verify individual marketplace sellers.

When to consider something else

If you specifically want a 210 mm Japanese gyuto, compare the Tojiro F-808. If you are choosing a very thin edge and accept more careful handling, the Takamura VG10 is another option. Neither is automatically a better purchase for every cook.

For a smaller board or a preference for a shorter blade, choose the compact option in the [tool finder](/tool-finder/). It includes a 17 cm Victorinox Fibrox santoku.

Keep the setup small

Use a stable wood or food-grade plastic cutting board and protect the edge when storing the knife. Avoid bones, frozen food, prying and hard cutting surfaces.

When sharpening is needed, a single medium-grit stone is a reasonable starting point. Keep any suitable board and sharpening equipment you already own. A new knife does not require a full set of accessories.

Takeaways

  • Check the extra-wide 20 cm model; retailer naming varies.
  • Compare price and grip comfort before paying more for a different knife.
  • This is researched guidance, not my own hands-on test.
